Peel
Area under vines: 140 ha (350 acres)
This
region is about 1 hours drive to the south of Perth and vineyards are
principally located on the sandy coastal soils of which there are two
distinct soil types. Along the coastal strip, Tuart* sands are the
predominant soil type over a very shallow water table. Further inland
the soil becomes better drained on gravel over sandy loam. This region
has quite a high winter rainfall with cool winters and dry and rather
hot periods during summer and the growing season.
* A native tree.
