About Ironwood Estate Wines

Ironwood is a boutique vineyard located near the Porongurup range of hills due east of Mount Barker in the Great Southern region. This small producer continues to shine with several varieties planted, including Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. Riesling has also been a successful variety since 1996. Ironwood shows great promise for future development of wines of distinction.

Ironwood Classic Blend 2003
Medium brick red in colour with youthful flavours of ripe attractive fruit. The palate has extraordinary dimension and ample flavour with very firm acidity, gentle tannins with good overall structure which develops in the glass. Excellent long persistent flavour. A surprise packet!

Ironwood Merlot 2003
Very deep ruby red in colour showing intense rich ripe aromas of black and red plum fruit. Flavours are sweet and attractive with rich ripe intensity. Succulent with supple light tannins and a very pleasant aftertaste.

Ironwood Shiraz 2004

Very intense deep red in colour. Attractive aromas of light spice and blackish fruit followed by flavours of ripe blackberry with excellent tannin structure to develop further with cellaring. A fine length of flavour and  finishes with a touch of spicyness.

Wignalls Pinot Noir 2009
Produced by one of the pioneers of this variety in West Australia this wine displays lovely intensity of dark cherries, black plums and strawberries with complex earthy aromas and hints of cinnamon. The palate shows consistent earthy, gamey characters with wild truffles and mushroom tones. Underlying caramel and chocolate characters are also evident.
